What's new Every day, we work to make our platform the best it can be, which includes regularly revisiting our terms and policies (AKA our House Rules) to make sure they meet the needs of our growing community and allow us to continue to support you. Today, we're sharing a few quick updates that go into effect on July 24, 2023. Here's a quick look at some of the changes that affect you as an Etsy member: Terms of Use: We've made some changes to our arbitration clause (section 11) for users in North and South America, to clarify which disputes must be arbitrated, explain how you can opt out of the arbitration process or reject the changes, and set rules and procedures for arbitration (including coordinated arbitrations), among other things. As before, the arbitration agreement includes a class action and jury waiver, which means we'll be resolving most disputes in private, individual arbitration, and not in court. Please read this section carefully. We've added a new section 12 for our users in Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa, explaining where disputes between us will be resolved and the law that will apply to any disputes. Relevant to all users, we've also refined certain terms relating to your and Etsy's respective legal rights, including the limitation of Etsy's liability, your indemnity obligations, and the license you grant us (and authorized third parties) to use content you post through the Services. The revised Terms of Use are available here. Privacy Policy: We've updated our Privacy Policy to give you more details about how we collect, use, and share your information, and we've simplified the format to make things easier to navigate. We've also updated the Policy to reflect new products and features, as well as changes to our business practices. For our U.S. users, we've also added more context about how we collect and use your data, whom we share it with, and how to exercise your rights, as required by certain new U.S. privacy laws. Intellectual Property Policy: We've updated our Intellectual Property Policy to clarify how we process certain reports of copyright infringement and eligible counter-notices. Introducing: Etsy’s Purchase Protection program

Etsy Purchase Protection Shop Confidently on Etsy. We've made it easier than ever to get help in the rare case that something goes wrong when shopping from a small business. With Etsy's Purchase Protection program, you can shop confidently knowing if something goes wrong, we've got your back. Buyers will receive a full refund for purchases that don't match the item description, arrive damaged, or never arrive. We believe that you should always get the item you ordered, or get your money back. All orders shipped on or after August 1 are eligible for Etsy Purchase Protection. For sellers, we wanted to make running their business on Etsy more worry free–especially when something happens that is outside of their control. We're excited to offer this benefit to our sellers at no additional cost to them. This is one of the many investments we're making to support our Etsy community. What's eligible for Etsy Purchase Protection: Your order doesn't match the item description or photos. For example, items shouldn't be a different color, size, or material than what's described or shown in the photos. They also shouldn't have any missing parts or damage that wasn't originally noted. Your item arrived damaged. Your item didn't arrive or was lost in the mail. How Etsy Purchase Protection works: If you have an issue with an order, you'll need to reach out to the seller as a first step. Sellers know their business best and by reaching out to them first they have an opportunity to help remedy the issue before Etsy steps in. To do so, visit your purchases page, find the order you need help with, and click 'Help with order.' Once you message the seller through this page, we encourage them to respond within 48 hours. If you don't hear back from them or still need help, you can choose to open a case, which means Etsy will step in to help resolve the issue. If the order is eligible for Etsy Purchase Protection, you'll receive a full refund. In order to be eligible for Etsy Purchase Protection, buyers must have a registered account on Etsy in good standing. We’re updating our policies

Our House Rules are getting a refresh for 2022 We regularly take a look at our policies (or as they're affectionately known around here, our House Rules) to ensure that they're still serving our community's needs as best they can. We're happy to report that improvements are being made to our House Rules on March 9. To learn more about these changes before they take effect next month, keep reading.  Increased transparency We've refreshed and reorganized several policies—like our Privacy Policy, Payments Policy, Electronic Comms Policy, and Buyer Policy—to increase transparency, provide more clarity, and made updates to reflect new features and services. Clearer Requests for Information Policy Etsy requires a valid and sufficient legal process to disclose information about an Etsy member. We've updated our Requests for Information Policy with the aim of providing more transparency to our members. Specifically, we've updated this policy to outline how, in situations where information is validly requested, Etsy will contact you before disclosing your information (unless it's a legal situation where we're prohibited to do so).
